Netflix today announced the premiere date and unveiled the first images from 1992, the first miniseries for the platform from acclaimed director Álex de la Iglesia and creator and screenwriter Jorge Guerricaechevarría, a two-time Goya Award winner whose credits include Celda 211, Las leyes de la frontera and Hermana muerte. The series will premiere on Netflix on December 13. The new thriller from the director of El día de la bestia revolves around a series of mysterious murders that all follow the same disturbing pattern: every victim has been burned, and a Curro doll—the iconic mascot of Seville’s Expo ’92—is found beside each body.
Directed by Álex de la Iglesia, the miniseries was created by De la Iglesia and Jorge Guerricaechevarría, from a screenplay by Pablo Tébar (Bandidos) and Jorge Valdano (Pollos sin cabeza). The series stars Fernando Valdivielso (Fanático) and Marian Álvarez (La herida, La unidad), with Paz Vega (Lucía y el sexo) and Carlos Santos (El hombre de las mil caras) also among the cast.
Filmed in Seville and Madrid, 1992 is produced by Pokeepsie Films for Netflix.
