Carmen Maura and Blanca Suárez star in La Cuidadora
Carmen Maura (La comunidad, Alguien tiene que morir) will lead the cast of this mystery thriller alongside Blanca Suárez (El cuarto pasajero, Respira), reuniting both actresses with the director on a new project.
The cast also includes Marta Hazas (Velvet, Las niñas de cristal), Asier Etxeandia (Dolor y gloria, Sky Rojo) and David Comrie (La casa de papel, La llegada).
LA CUIDADORA is produced by Pokeepsie Films, part of Banijay Iberia, with Carolina Bang and Álex de la Iglesia serving as executive producers. The screenplay was written by Jelen Morales and Álex de la Iglesia. Filming began this week in Madrid and will continue through mid-July. The entire film will be shot on 35mm.
SYNOPSIS
When Carmen, an 80-year-old widow, suffers an accident at home, her daughter Lourdes decides to hire a caregiver to help her with her daily routine. Accustomed to living alone, Carmen rejects every candidate, feeling that her home and privacy are being invaded. Her behavior exasperates Lourdes, whose own life is increasingly affected by the constant attention her mother requires.
The distressing succession of caregivers begins to take a toll on Lourdes’s marriage. Her husband, Mario, is forced to turn down an important job offer. Exhausted by the endless cycle of interviewing, hiring and firing candidates, Lourdes argues with her mother and is left feeling guilty.
Just when it seems that no one will ever be able to care for Carmen, Blanca arrives. Angelic in appearance, she is kind, efficient and resourceful. But nothing unfolds as they expected. Blanca is hiding a secret that will change Carmen’s life forever.
