Marfil Cortés, the daughter of a powerful Spanish businessman, sees her seemingly perfect life in New York turned upside down when she is suddenly kidnapped and released without explanation. Her father subsequently hires the enigmatic Sebastián Moore as her bodyguard. Forced to spend every minute together, they initially clash over her untamable spirit and his guarded nature, but an undeniable attraction soon develops between them. When they return to Spain and the threats against Marfil intensify, they must navigate a world in which no one is who they claim to be and nothing is what it seems.

“Following the incredible success of the Culpables films, we are delighted to continue expanding Mercedes Ron’s universe on Prime Video with the adaptation of the Enfrentados series,” said María Contreras, Head of Movies and Scripted Series at Amazon MGM Studios Spain. “Bringing these novels to the screen with actors as talented as Ester Expósito and Hugo Diego García marks another exciting milestone in our commitment to projects made in Spain that connect with audiences around the world.”

“We are incredibly excited to begin filming Enfrentados. It is a genre we love, and we hope the films will connect with audiences as strongly as our adaptations of the Culpables novels have,” Pokeepsie Films, part of Banijay Iberia, said.

“I am incredibly excited to bring a series that is so beloved by its fans to the screen,” said Mercedes Ron, author of Enfrentados. “After years of waiting, its moment has finally arrived, and I cannot imagine better partners than Pokeepsie and Prime Video to make it a reality. I cannot picture a better Marfil than Ester or a better Sebastián than Hugo.”

The announcement of MARFIL and ÉBANO marks the third collaboration between Prime Video and bestselling author Mercedes Ron, following the adaptations of her popular Culpables trilogy and the Dímelo series. Culpa mía became Prime Video’s most successful non-English-language film of 2023. Just one year later, in 2024, Culpa tuya broke every record to become the most-watched non-English-language Original in Prime Video history. The final installment in the trilogy, Culpa nuestra, will premiere soon, while Dímelo bajito is currently in production.
